Training session for the comprehensive participatory strategy of Nazareth in Valencia, Spain | 17th of December 2016
BCNUEJ participated in a training session of the comprehensive participatory strategy of Nazaret promoted by the Department of Citizen Participation and Neighborhood Action of the municipality of Valencia. The aim of the participatory process (September 2016-February 2017) was to identify problems and propose a plan for Nazaret, an economically and socially vulnerable neighborhood. In light of the possibility of planning a large park on the old watercourse of the river Turia—envisioned by the municipality and some neighbors as compensation for the loss of the beach due to the growth of the port in the 1985—neighborhood associations were interested in learning about the risks of green gentrification. Our researcher Carmen Pérez del Pulgar participated in a round table on housing and urban planning, together with Andreu Escrivà (environmental scientist) and Fernando Gaja (architect and professor at the Technical University of Valencia), where these risks as well as different strategies to prevent (green) gentrification were discussed.
